Our Story
Little choices. Happier mealtimes.
As parents and children, deciding what to eat isn’t always easy.
Children have their own tastes. Some love trying new things, while others would happily eat the same few meals every week. Something they loved yesterday might suddenly be a definite “no” today.
And for parents, trying to plan meals that are varied, balanced and actually get eaten can turn a simple question like “What should we have for dinner?” into a daily challenge.
At Little Plate, we know this because we live it.

Where Little Plate started
Little Plate started from a simple idea between Ayla Blossom, aged 6½, and her dad.
We wondered:

The question that changed things
What if children could be part of the decision?
Not by giving them an endless list of meals to choose from, and not by letting them eat whatever they want, but by giving them small, meaningful choices within a meal plan their parents are comfortable with. That became Little Plate.
Parents set the boundaries. Their family’s preferences, allergies, dislikes and needs come first. Little Plate then helps create a varied weekly menu around them.
Children get their own simple experience. They can look at the meals, tell you what looks Yummy ❤️, ask to Change it, and make small choices about what goes onto their plate.
It turns meal planning into something you do with your child rather than for your child.

From choosing to doing
But choosing the meal was only part of the idea. We also thought about what happens next.
While a parent is preparing dinner, children are often waiting. And today, waiting very easily means a television, a tablet or another screen.
There is nothing wrong with that. We live in a world full of screens, information and distractions, and sometimes parents simply need those twenty minutes to get dinner ready.
But we thought those twenty minutes could sometimes become something else too.
What if children could be part of preparing the meal they helped choose?
Little Plate can give them simple, age appropriate tasks for that evening. Nothing complicated.
The idea isn’t to give children more chores. It is to give them a little place in the kitchen and make them part of what is happening. They chose it. They helped make it. And now everyone gets to sit down and eat it together.
- Wash the vegetables
- Mix something in a bowl
- Get an ingredient
- Help prepare part of the meal
- Set the table
- Choose it
- Help make it
- Eat it together
The bigger idea
Children have a voice. Parents still have control.
That is the bigger idea behind Little Plate. It isn’t about creating perfect eaters or perfect meals.
It is about helping families discover what works for them, encouraging children to explore food at their own pace, and making everyday mealtimes feel a little more shared.
And instead of dinner simply being something that appears on the table, it can become something everyone has played a small part in creating.
Little Plate is for everyone
Of course, every family is different. And you don’t even need to have children to use Little Plate.
Maybe you’re planning meals with your partner. Maybe you’re cooking for friends. Or maybe you’re simply tired of asking yourself what you’re going to eat every evening. The same idea still works.
